Grade 5 witnesses a near-complete transition from "learning to read" into "reading to learn."  I believe this is the year where the children begin to more fully appreciate themselves as learners in terms of experiencing both content and development of learning methods.

I have chosen to teach at St. Leo because of the additional spiritual latitude provided within a Catholic school.  Teaching in a setting such as this allows me to go beyond the more-limited teacher role generally found in public education.  A Catholic foundation offers the chance to provide and practice being a more complete role model based on that of the Master Teacher.  I am able to use examples and comparisons that aren't seen out of our setting.
